Treatment Approaches
Teen IOP programs offer evidence-based treatment, therapeutic approaches, skill-building practices, and supportive interventions to help teens manage emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges while maintaining school and home routines. Treatment also includes mindfulness techniques, relaxation strategies, and step-down support for teens transitioning from higher levels of care.
Evidence-Based Therapies
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – Builds healthier thinking patterns, improves emotional regulation, and helps teens challenge unhelpful thoughts.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) – Teaches mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and skills for handling impulsive or overwhelming reactions.
Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) – Strengthens engagement, increases motivation, and supports active participation in treatment.
Family Therapy (FBT, ABFT) – Improves communication, repairs family dynamics, and involves caregivers to support long-term success.
Group Therapy – Offers peer connection, shared experiences, and age-appropriate skill-building in a supportive setting.
Medication Management – When needed, psychiatric providers assist with symptom stabilization and ongoing medication oversight.
Each teen is paired with an individual therapist who creates a personalized treatment plan based on their unique needs.
Holistic & Experiential Therapies
Mindfulness & Meditation – Builds coping skills, reduces stress, and increases emotional awareness.
Yoga & Movement Therapy – Supports mind–body regulation and emotional balance.
Art & Music Therapy – Provides creative outlets for processing emotions, building confidence, and improving communication.
Nutritional Counseling – Encourages healthy habits that support mood stability and overall well-being.
Recreational & Experiential Activities – Team-building, outdoor activities, and structured exercises that promote resilience and self-esteem.
Additional Supportive Services
Trauma-Informed Therapy (EMDR, TF-CBT) – Addresses trauma, stress, and unresolved emotional experiences.
Academic & School Support – Coordination with schools to help teens stay on track academically during treatment.
Peer Support & Social Skills Groups – Builds healthy relationships, communication abilities, and peer accountability.
Life Skills Training – Teaches responsibility, emotional regulation, healthy habits, and decision-making skills needed for long-term independence.
Aftercare in Teen IOP Programs
Aftercare helps teens maintain progress once the structured program ends. It reinforces coping skills, supports emotional stability, and provides continuity during the transition back to daily life. Aftercare often includes:
Weekly or bi-weekly therapy sessions
Family check-ins and communication support
School coordination and academic planning
Peer support groups for connection and accountability
Ongoing medication management, if needed
- Traditional Outpatient Therapy
A strong aftercare plan helps teens continue building resilience, healthy routines, and long-term stability. Some may also step into traditional outpatient services based on ongoing needs.
