Partial Hospitalization Program FOR MENTAL HEALTH
Partial hospitalization is a program used at California Prime Recovery to treat mental illness and substance abuse. Partial hospitalization is a form of outpatient treatment that involves partial daycare at our facility, while receiving treatment for drug, alcohol or mental illness. This level of care is helpful as a step-down transition from acute inpatient care or as an alternative to inpatient treatment.
Treatment during a typical day may include group therapy, psych-educational groups, skill building, and individual therapy, with more intensive attention provided to specific issues, such as trauma processing, eating disorders, anger management, and other issues that are driving an individual towards addictive behaviors. Sometimes an individual may be suffering from parallel addictions such as gambling and sex, in which PHP may provide a more intensive level of care than an outpatient program.
In essence, PHP provides a more comprehensive treatment and benefits such as an inpatient program, while also offering coping skills and real life integration of an intensive outpatient (IOP) program.

Besides medical supervision, behavioral therapy is a primary component of inpatient treatment at California Prime. Our approach provides comprehensive, skills-based treatment aimed at stabilizing patients, improving functioning, and preparing for a return to outpatient treatment. Our main treatment components include group and individual therapy, case management, and aftercare planning, medication consultation and treatment, and occupational therapy and vocational counseling consultations as needed.
Therapeutic approaches we use at California Prime may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), holistic approaches such as yoga and mindfulness practices, as well as skills-based approaches such as adventure therapy. We offer gender specific treatment as well as 12-step programs for expanding peer network communities.
Higher level of treatment and care
Patients in our PHP programs receive an intense level of care from our licensed professionals throughout the day, working closely with a team of clinicians, therapists, counselors and case managers who can identify and help manage addiction issues as well as co-occurring mental health issues.
Comfortable facilities with all amenities
Inpatient settings in hospital like environments are not always appealing to patients who come in for drug and alcohol treatment. Our PHP facility provides treatment in luxurious settings which can offer a home-like environment for recovery while still receiving intensive care.
Less expensive than Inpatient care
While cost is relative, a complete inpatient hospitalized facility and care can be expensive. Partial Hospitalization offers a more affordable option while still providing quality treatment and intensive care for a longer term than inpatient care.
Easier transition to outpatient
Because PHP treatment is offered in an outpatient facility, patients can make a transition to outpatient program much more easily while they start their integration process back into real life.
Patients will meet with our medical professionals if prescription medications are needed. Our expert staff of licensed mental health professionals facilitate therapy, psychoeducation and periodic evaluations. Our case managers are involved hands-on during skill building sessions and provide a support system in addition to the patient’s peer group and family.
The partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) offers one-on-one counseling sessions with a psychiatrist specializing in addiction and mental health disorders. You’ll also attend group therapy sessions led by therapists who specialize in group work and have experience working with people with similar issues. In addition to these services, PHP offers other options such as relapse prevention training, medication management support, and medication education.
When you come into our treatment center at California Prime, you will receive a formal assessment from one of our licensed professionals who will evaluate your current situation, mental health issues, medical history and family history, and provide an individualized treatment plan that is specific to your needs.
